I.CANDIDATE CUA CARD: THE
PUBLICH HOLIDAY
There will soon be a public holiday in the country your
examiner comes from.you want to find out about the holiday.
Ask your examiner about: (1) the name of the publich holiday;
(2) the significance of the holiday; (3) avaibility of services on the day
(banks/shop/cinemas); (4) things for visitors to do; (5) how she/he plans to
spend the day.
II.INTERVIEWER’S NOTES:
THE PUBLICH HOLIDAY
Choose a lesser known public holiday from your country. Be
prepared to provide some accurate information on the history and significance
of the day. If in-coutry, tell the candidate how you will spend the day.
If you are non-English speaking county, tell the candidate
how people normally spend this day back home. Provide information about the
availability of the shops, services and banks on the day

S: I would like to know more about public holidays coming
this month. woudl you please tell me what are names of those holidays?
E: within this month-April. In Viet Nam we have 2 public
holidays names Vietnamese ‘s King Memorial and Vietnam Victory Day
S: could you please let me know more about the significance
of these holidays?
E: well, Vietnamese’s King Memorial is also known as Gio To
Hung Vuong and as of 2007, The Viet Nam government declared it a public
holiday. Hung Vuong or Hung King was the ancient King of Viet Nam and this new
holiday is officially called Gio To Hung Vuong or Hung King’s Temple Festival.
The Festival for it will go by the Chinese lunar calendar which falls on the 10th
day of the 3rd lunar month every year in the Hung King’s temple. It
is benefiting that the festival will be held in the Hung King’s temple as it
was a place of worship for the legendary, ancient King of Viet Nam and it is
also a place of importance in Vietnam’s history and country leaders come to the
Hung King’s temple, so all thousands of Vietnam people so they can pay their
respect to Hung Vuong and either join in or watch the beautiful and colorful
parade. Even though this festival is virtually known to tourist. Those who just
happen to be in country will join the spectacle.
S: well, that is interesting information and how about
another holidays?
E: another holiday this month is Viet Nam Victory day which
is also known as Liberation Day or reunification day. It is considered as a
national holiday and is observed on April 30th every year. It is
celebrated to memorize the fall of Saigon into the hand of the Viet Cong and
the North Vietnamese troops on April 30th 1975 which ended
Vietnamese War. Celebrations for Vietnam Victory Day will include Vietnam
people organizing and attending parades and festivals throughout the country
such as bicycle race and historic documentary movies’ performances. But for
some Vietnamese exiles whose community is outside the country, this day
commemorates their displacement from Vietnam and many of them refer to this day
as National Resentment even though those teams are considered treasonous in
Viet Nam
S: wow, that is really interesting information about your
coming holiday this month and now I wonder is there availability of services on
these holidays such as banks, shops and cinemas or some things like that?
E:well in Vietnam these days during any public holidays all
the banks and companies and government agencies go off but companies or centers
which provide entertainment services are still available every day so you can
have a good time during those public holidays everywhere in Vietnam.
S: can you tell me what visitors can do in Vietnam during
those holidays?
E: as I know until now, during Vietnam public holidays
visitors can books tour around Viet Nam. I think it is really interesting and
having a good time at some entertaining places can be funny too.
S: and you, what you will do on those public holidays.
E: this year those holidays fall on weeken so I think I will
travel some beautiful places in Vietnam with my family such as Da Lat. I
believe it will be pleasure times for me.
